Today the Lakefield Equestrian team wanted to share some information about something very close to our hearts, Riding for the Disabled Association, or RDA, an organisation that we are proud to be part of.
RDA is a charity that provides riding and carriage driving opportunities for people with disabilities and special needs. Established in 1969, RDA now has over 500 approved centres (including our very own Lakefield) with around 13,000 volunteers across the UK. Each group is run by a team of trained volunteers or RDA qualified instructors who assist with activities ranging from riding and carriage driving to vaulting, games and even activities that can be done in the horses’ stable that require very little mobility.
At our equestrian school, we are privileged to support this amazing initiative by providing schooling horses and our very own instructors, who are qualified RDA Advanced Coaches. Our trained staff work each week to ensure that the riders get the best experience and feel comfortable and safe in the saddle. Ensuring the safety of our students is paramount at Lakefield. We currently welcome 85 riders a week and offer both group and private lessons as required.
The team here at Lakefield Equestrian believe that the activities associated with RDA benefit those taking part in many ways. For many, simply being around horses and participating in guided lessons has had a positive impact on their physical and mental wellbeing, helping them to achieve a greater level of independence that might not otherwise have been possible. We believe in every rider in our school and working with the RDA we have been able to assist our riders in moving on to the British Dressage Para Equestrian, with both horse and rider achieving national titles. We are very proud of the achievements of our students.
At Lakefield, we are passionate about the RDA and delighted to contribute to their meaningful and important work. Inclusivity is at the core of our ethics at Lakefield and we believe everybody can benefit from being around and integrating our stunning, good-natured horses.
If you would like to find out more about our work with RDA, or our individual or group sessions we have with our RDA Advanced Instructors, please do not hesitate to get in contact. We are happy to answer any questions you may have and see how you can get involved.
